Well..here we are. A whole lot has gone on since I last blogged and I wanted to get this baby going again. I am in the thick of recording the new NAVAR album and thought it would be great to document the process on here or at least talk about the sessions I am doing and any interesting recording ideas we are trying out.
First off...I am not a professionally trained Berklee grad...just someone who trusts their ears and is willing to make mistakes and learn all I can to create innovative music. Whatever that means to you...I guess it doesn't matter.
Ok, so I am in NYC working on my mobile rig editing the tracks. We have 16 songs tracked out structurally with the drum tracks recorded and a lot of the bass. I have been cleaning up the tracks, fading all the punches and smoothing it out as well as recording some of the rhythm guitar tracks via the Mbox 2 inputs and Guitar Rig 2. Now that PT 7 and the new version of guitar rig is much more efficient with processor power it allows me to use it more and more. I have even used it to try out some effects on vocals.
The drums have 11 simultaneous tracks. Kick, snare, high hat, rack 1,2,3 floor 1,2 Overhead Left and Right and a Room Mic. We recorded the Bass with 3 simultaneous tracks, the D112 about 3 feet from the cab, a 57 close mic and a direct input. I am looking to utilize the amps we use live CRANKED as well as Guitar Rig tracks to blend the rhythm and lead tracks.
That is where I am at now. I will try and update each day since work will be done constantly between now and when the project is completed. I will get pictures and the tour page set up asap so you all can see this place.
Until next time, Patrick

Tomorrow should be considered Anna May day!
Their new release called "The Sea Legs Session" will be available at their show at the JT High School in Jasper NY! We are proud of the project and I personally am just honored to be a part of it. You can check it out at their myspace page.

It's early on Sunday and I have a full day of recording today. Anna May will be here soon to finish up guitar, bass and vocal tracks for their current project. This is the exciting part for me because the songs really start becoming something...and every element and layer added contribute to the character of it all. I promise that photos will be posted soon...maybe even today.

I just wanted to give an update on what has been going on at Sea Legs lately. I have been doing some editing on the Anna May project today, along with the mastering of the upcoming "Restless, Restless" Compilation CD care of the Howard Stern Show that will be coming out next month. I believe Anna May will be back in the studio this weekend to wrap up the recording.
NAVAR has been in recording some new songs for a couple of upcoming releases...cool stuff. I hope to be bringing in some new bands next month. Contact the studio if you would like to be one of them!

Dan and Andy from Anna May are back this morning to finish up the drum tracks, guitar and some vocals today. Coffee is brewing, jokes and stories are being told and Dan is meticulously setting up his kit. This release is going to be grand...I can already tell.

Sea Legs Recording Studio is ready to rock! What used to be our little secret by the river is now available to you!
This site is totally a work in progress, but the basics are posted and correct. The band Anna May from Jasper will be coming in tomorrow to lay the groundwork for their upcoming project and I couldn't be more excited about it.
With availability depending on the touring schedule of NAVAR and our own upcoming album, please give us a shout if you are interested in recording at Sea Legs. I really look forward to working with all of the artists that will be recording here during the next few months...it will surely be a blast.
I will try and use this space to report on the events of the day and the progress of our current projects...with maybe even a few audio leaks! Right on friends, right on.
